"he koude songs make and wel endite"
(he could/knew how to make songs and compose them well)
-Geoffrey Chaucer, Canterbury Tales, 14th c. (GP l. 95)
I have long been a fan of medieval literature, especially Old French and Occitan troubadour poetry from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and Middle English poetry of the fourteenth century. My enjoyment does not restrict itself to merely studying the existing medieval works, but to attempt my own recreations of the styles and genres that I love so much. Most of these poems were written with various aspects of the 'real' Middle Ages as well as the 'current' Middle Ages of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Members of the SCA, as well as reenactors and recreationists from other groups, may find this site most appealing, though fans of medieval poetry may also, I hope, learn more about medieval genres and poetic details by examining my own attempts.
I welcome feedback and correspondence, though I may not always be able to provide assistance if you have a specific request or question.
about olivier (vida)
Olivier de Bayonne is a young trobador from Gascony in the mid-twelfth century. Falling on hard times during his youth, he sold his poetic skills to a traveling Saxon joglar and his wife (Efenwealt Wystle and Aenor d'Anjou), both of whom entertained the English court. Coming to the fair shores of Atlantia, Olivier has taken up the sword as well as the quill in order to try and prosper far better than he did in southwestern France and Catalonia, following the fashion of young noblemen at home in Occitania. This has served him well, for recently he was recognized by the Atlantian monarchs as a worthy trobador and was made a member of the Order of the Laurel.
