Senhor, por lh' agardo

Manchester, UK: Carcanet, 1995. Codax's song is optimistic in tone, a cantiga d'amigo in which the narrator eagerly awaits the return home of her beloved. For my take on the poem, I opted to write a melancholy piece where the narrator realizes--but cannot fully come to terms with the fact--that their beloved does not requite that love. I opted to play with the refrain in an oscillation of imperative/interrogative moods as a kind of "they love me, they love me not" game.

This piece, originally titled "M'amor, eu atendo" was written in honor of Lady Magdalena, the love of His Excellency Rodrigo Falcone, on the condition that Baron Rodrigo compose a piece of his own in Old Spanish. This challenge was made in November AS XXXIX.

This piece has since been significantly reworked to reflect a stronger sense of Galician-Portuguese in AS LIV.
