Sonette XXVII

Poem (Canso):

My lady fair outfitted by Hell is:
A silken robe of night over her breast
To cloak the glow of sun during its rest,
Spun by Proserpine and Semiramis.
A veil they placed atop that face of bliss,
And crowned her with a prickly onyx-nest,
While mantle fine is on her shoulders drest.
O, to give this woman a beck, a kiss!
Separate I must yet remain from joy
To meet that challenge from Hades’ monarck:
Begin now I to ride, with hope and foy
That follow she behind on pathway dark.
Full made am I again, to have her near,
Yet alone may I be, if still I fear.
